Creative Mike Studios
Audiobook recording booth at Studio 127, between Deptford and Greenwich

Audiobook production · Deptford, South East London

Your book, in your voice — or a voice you cast.

Audiobook production from a working SE London studio. Two paths to a finished master: a human narrator we cast for you, or a custom-trained AI model that reads the whole book in your own voice. Either way the masters ship distribution- ready for Audible, Spotify, Apple Books and Google Play.

Human VO or AI in your own voice
Distribution-ready masters
Mastered to ACX / Audible spec
Same studio, same producer

Two delivery paths

Cast a narrator. Or be the narrator.

Both paths produce a finished audiobook to the same Audible/ACX spec. The difference is whether the voice belongs to a professional narrator or to a private AI model trained on a recording of you. Hybrid is also possible.

Path A

Human voice-over

A professional narrator records the manuscript in our studio. Right when you want a voice that isn't yours, when the book benefits from a trained reader, or when speed matters more than authenticity.

  • Cast a narrator from our roster, or audition our network
  • Recorded in our acoustically-treated booth on Shure SM7B + broadcast chain
  • Producer-led sessions — corrections done in the room, not in revisions
  • Edited, mastered and chapterised within 2 weeks of the last recording

From £75/finished hour

Includes studio + producer + edit + master

Path B

Author-voice AI narration

We record a short voice-training session with you, then a custom-trained TTS model narrates the whole book in your voice. Right when you want the audiobook in your voice but can't spend 40+ hours in a recording booth.

  • 1–2 hour voice-training recording session at the studio
  • Custom TTS model trained on your voice (kept private to your account)
  • Full manuscript narrated by the model — chapter by chapter QA
  • Human editor reviews every chapter for cadence and pronunciation before final master

From £30/finished hour

Plus £350 one-off voice-training fee

Both rates are starting points. Final quotes depend on book length, narrator choice, and distribution scope. Send the manuscript word count and we come back with a fixed quote within 48 hours.

Process

From manuscript to retail-ready master.

01 · Brief

Tell us about the book

Manuscript word count, genre, intended distribution. We come back with a quote and an estimated finished-hour run-time (~9,300 words ≈ 1 finished audiobook hour).

02 · Voice

Choose human or AI

Cast a narrator from our roster, audition outside, or come in for a voice-training session. Either path uses the same studio chain so the masters sound consistent.

03 · Record

Studio sessions

Human VO records book-by-book in producer-led sessions. AI-voice books need just one short training session; the rest of the work happens off-site.

04 · Edit & master

ACX-spec audio

Each chapter mastered to Audible (ACX) submission standards: -23 to -18 dB RMS, peak ≤ -3 dB, noise floor ≤ -60 dB. Chapter markers, file naming, retail and library samples generated.

05 · Distribute

Submit and publish

We hand off retail-ready files (or submit on your behalf via ACX, Findaway Voices, Spotify Open Audiobooks). You stay the rightsholder; we just engineer the masters.

Distribution

Audible, Spotify, Apple, all of it.

Every master leaves the studio formatted to Audible's ACX spec — the strictest of the major platforms. That same file passes for Spotify Open Audiobooks, Apple Books, Google Play Books, and library distributors.

We engineer the masters. You stay the rightsholder. We're not an Audible exclusive partner — that's your call to make if you want it.

FAQ

What authors ask first.

01Can the AI-voice option really sound like me?

Yes — modern voice-cloning models are convincing on a 1–2 hour training set, especially for narrative reading at a steady pace. We do a chapter-by-chapter human review pass to catch cadence, pronunciation, and emotional beats the model gets wrong. It will not sound identical to a 40-hour studio recording, but it sounds genuinely you.

02Do you publish to Audible?

Yes — but be precise about what that means. We produce masters formatted to Audible's submission spec (ACX) and we can submit on your behalf. We are not an Audible exclusive partner; you keep all rights and royalties. The same masters work for Spotify Open Audiobooks, Apple Books, Google Play Books and library distribution via Findaway Voices.

03How long does the AI-voice path take?

1–2 hours of voice training in the studio + ~5 days for model training + 1–2 weeks for narration generation and human QA, depending on book length. A typical 50,000-word non-fiction book lands as a finished master inside 3 weeks.

04What's the legal position on voice cloning?

The voice model is trained only on your own recordings, kept private to your account, and we don't reuse it for other authors. Your contract makes you the sole licensee of the synthetic voice for the book in question. The Audible / ACX terms currently allow AI narration provided it's disclosed at the metadata level — we handle that disclosure.

05Can I do a hybrid — narrate some chapters myself and AI the rest?

Yes. Foreword and chapter intros recorded by the author (or a guest), the rest by the AI model, all mastered to the same chain so the listener doesn't notice the swap. This is the lowest-effort way to keep authentic moments without spending a month in a booth.

06Who keeps the rights to the recording?

You. Always. The studio is a contractor; you are the rightsholder. We retain a clearly-scoped right to display anonymised samples in our portfolio with your written permission only.
